The film star died on Sunday — four days before his 59th birthday.
No cause of death has been revealed.
Before his death, the actor was, however, hospitalised during filming on the Italian island Ischia.
Stevenson was famous for his appearances in TV movies like ‘Rome’, ‘Vikings’ and ‘Dexter’.
He played a major character in the ‘Thor’ trilogy and the ‘Divergent’ series.
He also featured in several TV shows like ‘Band of Gold’, ‘Peak Practice’ and ‘Murphy’s Law’.
Born to British military personnel in Northern Ireland, Stevenson moved to England at the age of eight.
His father was a member of the Royal Air Force (RAF) near Lisburn, County Antrim, at the time of his birth in 1964.His family relocated to Newcastle upon Tyne, England, where he spent most of his childhood.

He showed interest in acting after being inspired by the performance of John Malkovich at a West End theatre in London.
He studied acting at the Bristol Old Vic Theatre School and had his first cast in ‘The Dwelling Place’, the Catherine Cookson drama.
In 2004, he played a knight in ‘King Arthur’, the Hollywood epic film.
Stevenson would later secure roles as Volstagg in ‘Thor’ and Titus Pullo in ‘Rome’ HBO’s historical drama series.
