Onyekuru keen to make Super Eagles AFCON squad

Al-Feiha striker, Henry Onyekuru is determined to make Nigeria’s squad to the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Onyekuru has not been called by Nigeria since making the squad to the 2021 AFCON finals hosted by Cameroon.

The 26-year-old joined Saudi Arabia Pro League side, Al-Feiha from Turkish outfit, Adana Demirspor in the summer. The versatile striker has scored three goals and provided two assists in 14 outings for Al-Feiha this season.

Onyekuru is hopeful his impressive performance can help convince Nigeria head coach Jose Peseiro to include him in the squad for Cote d’Ivoire 2023.

“I was there at the last AFCON in Cameroon, and I am really pushing to be there again,” Onyekuru told Arab News.

“In Nigerian football, there is still this negative mentality about the Saudi league – they don’t think it is as intense. “But I think they should be able to see that now. The players who play here make it competitive. I am not giving up, and anything can happen.”
