Zinedine Zidane’s son has been named in Real Madrid’s squad for their Champions League group game against Napoli
With three first-team midfielders missing due to injury, Madrid boss Carlo Ancelotti has dipped into his academy options to fill out his squad. Zidane is among those called up. The 21-year-old is yet to make his Madrid debut, but has been a regular for the reserve side for over two years.Zidane isn’t the only academy prospect to get a nod for Wednesday’s clash. Mario Marin, Zico Paz, Fran Gonzalez and Lucas Canizares – son of former Blancos goalkeeper Santiago – have also been named in Ancelotti’s 21-man squad for Napoli’s visit to the Santiago Bernabeu.
Ancelotti showed his faith in the youth contingent in a press conference ahead of Wednesday’s game. “There is a lot of talk about the group that does not play and now we must take advantage of it. They have contributed for the little they have played, Nico and Gonzalo. Mario Martin is in the call, Theo Zidane could be there.
“I have a lot of confidence in it. Raúl’s work is fantastic. I have to give priority to those who have played less, like Brahim, Lucas Vazquez or Fran Garcia. I am calm because the youth players are ready to play.”
The 21-year-old will hope to be involved on Wednesday as Madrid host Napoli. Los Blancos, having already sealed their spot in the knockout stages, can certainly afford to rotate.
