Sport Cypriot club, Omonia Nicosia seek to delay Uzoho’s arrival for Eagles’ AFCON duty

Cypriot club, Omonia Nicosia is seeking to delay the release of Nigeria goalkeeper, Francis Uzoho for the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations.

Uzoho is expected to be included in the Super Eagles squad for the competition. Clubs are mandated to release invited players by January 1. The goaltender is expected to link up with his Super Eagles teammates in Abu Dhabi, United Arab Emirates on the same day.

According to a Cypriot news outlet, Kerkida and Omonia Nicosia are having a goalkeeping crisis and want Uzoho to be in goal against AEL on January 2. The club’s first-choice goalkeeper, Fabiano is currently recuperating from an injury and will only return to action at the end of January. The club’s other goalkeeper Charalampos Kyriakidis is also in the treatment room.
